TIKAL
The Maya of Mesoamerica reached remarkable intellectual and artistic heights during the Classic period (250 – 900AD). They built huge temples and pyramids, inscribed stone monuments, made major advances in mathematics and astronomy, and developed complex hieroglyphic scripts. But their great civilization was doomed to undergo a mysterious collapse that would leave their mighty temples abandoned.
Tikal was the capital of the Mayan empire during their classic period. Located north in Guatemala in the rain forest region of the country, it is often called the soul of the earth. This magical place is guaranteed to be a great adventure and is one hour by plane. Of the park's 222 square miles, only 10 square miles of central Tikal have been mapped and over 3,000 separate buildings have been revealed: temples, shrines, ceremonial platforms, residences, ball courts, terraces, causeways and plazas. Excavated by the University of Pennsylvania between 1956 and 1969, it is la largest excavated site in the Americas, with an exuberant fauna and amazing plant life.

Hotels inside the Tikal National Park…
The Hotel Jungle Lodge, located inside the Tikal National Park, offers 36 rooms and two junior suites each feature two double beds, private bathroom, porch and ceiling fan. The hotel offers a swimming pool and restaurant. Comfortable bungalows are nestled in exuberant nature. The hotel provides guided services to the archaeological sites, bird watching tours and transportation to many other sites in the area. During high season, this hotel only offers tour packages (see above)
